This small village, highly suggestive because of its porches and porticos, opens and closes the Romantic Shore both in the direction Gera Lario–Como and Como-Gera Lario. Recently brutalized by a natural disaster it still offers landscapes worthy of a nativity scene. Not surprisingly in fact every year the solemn procession of the Magi takes place there on the 6th of January. Cut off by one of the tunnels which facilitate driving along Via Statale Regina, the old town centre has had a more relaxed atmosphere for some years as if houses are holding each other tight trying to avoid another tragedy.

Like other villages on the Romantic shore Brienno has a character of “earth” (ground) and you can see it walking along some paths each of them having peculiar and recognizable features: the so called scenic trail on the old track of the “Rogations” (litanies) where the faithful went in procession praying for crop protection; the interhamlets trail (easily identifiable on the Kom-pass map 1:50,000) and finally the hardest with a unique and fascinating educational value: “the botanic track”. Along it the native plants, particularly the ligneous ones, have signs indicat-ing the names of the different tree species they belong to in Latin, Italian and dialect.
